Major Duties: Work within field of fisheries acoustics to apply spatial statistical methods and other statistical analyses to acoustic-trawl survey data and conduct experiments related to acoustic-survey research needs. Position is mixture of independent projects and collaborative work with staff.  Research is designed to quantify sources of uncertainty and bias in acoustic-survey estimates of abundance and distribution of living marine resources. An initial project will be to develop a comprehensive statistical model that includes terms to describe these various sources of uncertainty and bias.  Another project will be to participate in a multi-year project to compare acoustic-trawl survey performance of a new, large, noise-quieted research vessel with other conventional research vessels.  Research projects are expected to result in publications in scientific literature.  Strong credentials in applied statistical design and analysis required. Advanced degree highly desirable.
